OG Kush: The Complete Home Grower's Guide

Welcome to our educational cultivation hub. Our objective is to provide the community with the knowledge, tools, and techniques required for premium home cultivation and botanical extraction. This guide covers the complete cultivation process for a legendary Indica-dominant hybrid: OG Kush (Chemdawg x Lemon Thai x Hindu Kush).

Strain Overview

OG Kush is a highly potent cultivar, typically testing between 19% and 26% THC with trace amounts of CBD (< 1%). Renowned for its complex aromatic profile of lemon-fuel, pine, and earthy skunk (dominated by the terpenes Myrcene, Limonene, and Caryophyllene), this strain is a staple for serious horticulturists. Indoors, it grows to a manageable height of 90cm to 160cm, characterized by a bushy and dense morphological structure. When dialed in correctly, indoor yields can reach an impressive 450g to 550g/m².

Phase 1: The Seedling Phase (Duration: 2 Weeks)

Following germination, the critical first phase focuses on establishing a robust root system and early foliage.

  • Lighting: Maintain an 18/6 or 24/0 light schedule to provide fragile seedlings with gentle, consistent energy.
  • Environment: Target temperatures should remain between 72°F and 78°F, with a high relative humidity of 65% to 70% to support early leaf development.
  • Nutrients & pH: Maintain a pH balance between 6.0 and 6.8 for soil mediums, or 5.5 and 6.2 for hydroponics. Exercise caution regarding irrigation; overwatering is highly detrimental during this infancy stage.

Phase 2: The Vegetative Phase (Duration: 4 Weeks)

As the plant develops its canopy to maximize photosynthesis over this 4-week period, its environmental requirements will shift.

  • Environment: Increase ambient temperatures to 70°F–85°F, but reduce relative humidity to 45%–55%. This reduction is critical for early mildew prevention, as OG Kush is naturally prone to Powdery Mildew.
  • Canopy Management: OG Kush responds exceptionally well to Low-Stress Training (LST), Topping, and the Screen of Green (SCROG) method to manage height and encourage lateral expansion.
  • Nutritional Needs: This cultivar is a heavy feeder with a particularly high demand for Calcium and Magnesium. Ensure your nutrient regimen accommodates this increased Cal-Mag requirement.

Phase 3: The Flowering Phase (Duration: 8 to 9 Weeks)

To induce the flowering stage, transition your lighting cycle to an equal 12 hours on and 12 hours off (12/12 schedule).

  • Environment: Maintain daytime temperatures between 65°F and 80°F, as OG Kush thrives with cooler night cycles. It is imperative to drop humidity levels to 40%–45% during this final 8 to 9-week phase.
  • Cultivation Alert (The "Stretch"): Be prepared for the plant to become "stretchy" during the first 3 weeks of flower, which makes the SCROG and LST canopy management methods from Phase 2 absolutely essential.
  • Cultivation Alert (Airflow): Because the inflorescences (buds) become exceptionally dense, stagnant air creates a high risk for Powdery Mildew and botrytis (bud rot). Maintain rigorous air circulation throughout the grow space.
  • Cultivation Alert (Light Leaks): OG Kush is highly sensitive to light pollution during its dark periods. Verify the integrity of your environment's zippers and seals to prevent developmental stress or hermaphroditism.

Final Note: With precise environmental control and attentive nutritional management, you can expect to harvest premium, resin-dense flowers highly suited for extraction in approximately 8 to 9 weeks of flowering.
